Snow Forces School Closings and Tough Commutes in New Jersey

With another round of winter weather barreling through the northeast, many counties in New Jersey were forced to either close or delay the opening of school on Friday.

Essex, Hudson, Morris, Hudson, Union and Middlesex Counties all have schools that are either closed or delayed because of this latest round of winter weather.

Meanwhile, a hodgepodge of snow and ice has made the morning commute a nightmare, with many drivers experiencing a particularly treacherous sandwich ice between layers of snow. The northern part of the state saw heavy snow Thursday, and by Thursday night the storm had wrapped back around to deliver another round of rain that eventually turned to snow in many areas.

This morning, the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Expressway both have closed lanes, making this morning’s drive difficult.

Luckily, forecasters say a warming trend could be on the way. A shift in the weather pattern could boost temperatures into the 40’s next week.
